Book Review: Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Half of a Yellow Sun

I came across Adichie when I read Purple Hibiscus and I am so glad that I did, shortlisted for amongst others, the Booker and Orange prizes she is an awesome writer.

Half of a Yellow Sun is based during the civil war in Nigeria during the 1960s. We follow the criss crossing lives of the house boy Ugwu, the privileged woman Olanna and Richard the Englishman. The mix of educating the reader on the history of the civil war, with the raw emotion of the characters is outstanding and takes you on a truly emotional journey.

Adichie is one of those writers for whom the language just flows, she writes with such compassion and depth, it is hard to put her books down.
