I was not familiar with JR but was recently gifted his wonderful book Women are Heroes. The book catalogues an extraordinary project by JR in which he travelled as widely as Sierra Leone and Cambodia (with a few more destinations in between) and pasted mural-size portraits in public places to highlight the “dignity of women who are often the targets of conflicts”.
I love this book, I’ve never known a project like this. The book includes JR’s original portraits of the women, interviews with them and shots of the amazing murals. It really was a truly amazing project and put together beautifully in this book. I particularly enjoyed reading the story behind the project and the concise interviews with the subjects.
