Since visiting for the first time last summer, Shakespeares Globe theatre in London. I simply adore everything about the Globe, from the location on the river to the intimacy of the building, and when you exit the building the view of St Pauls is out of this world.
Last summer I really enjoyed the Globe to Globe season so was delighted to see that they were bringing several shows back. I went along to see Venus & Adonis by the South African Isango Ensemble. It was performed in English, IsiZulu, SeSotho, Setswana and Afrikanns. Now you may think that this was tricky as I only speak English, but I can not recommend it enough, as long as you know the general story of the play then it is more than easy to follow.
Where to begin, the theatre was packed with a great mix of people young and old, and as we took our seats, the actors were already in position which really built on the excitement. The performance included a lot of singing, dancing and fabulous drumming. We really were dancing in our seats to Shakespeare. The quality of the performers was excellent, beautiful singers and the humour and drama of the play was conveyed perfectly.
